Last week, after considering our plan we have changed it again. Our original idea was to go to a school and talk to students about what leukemia is and how to treat fellow students that may be coming back from treatment after having leukemia. Now, we have decided that we are going to focus our project on going to a school and educating kids on what leukemia is and how they can help (but we will still be talking about how to treat peers with leukemia). We decided to do this idea since we have seen studies which show that children who are educated about diseases when they are younger tend to be more empathetic as they grow older. Our primary goal of our school visit is to educate and encourage children to do what they can to support other kids suffering from leukemia. We plan to make this presentation very interactive in order to involve the kids and have the topic stay with them.
The next thing we have to do is to reach out to the specific school that we want to visit. Luckily it is the elementary school that our school has connections with. Hopefully this school will approve our plans so we can continue with this idea! If not, we have other schools we can visit. While some of us are working on contacting the school, the rest of us are working on putting the slideshow and pamphlet that we plan to use together and gathering more information so that we can make our presentation as educational and interesting as possible! We are working very hard and hopefully we can move even further forward in our plan!
